Niagara Scenic Parkway Reimagined Phase 3
Overview
Over the course of the past decade, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation in close coordination with NYS Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), Empire State Development (ESD) and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) have planned for and completed the historic removal of three miles of limited‐access expressway segments of the former Robert Moses Parkway (also known as the Niagara Scenic Parkway) along the Upper Niagara River (above the falls) and Niagara River Gorge rim/Lower Niagara River (below the falls). Removal of the parkway has led to the development of additional trails, greenspace, and outdoor recreational opportunities while reconnecting Niagara Falls and Lewiston to their waterfront.
The Phase 3 scoping process will consider broad alternatives for creating a sensitively configured transportation network along the gorge and will include traffic studies, environmental review, development of design alternatives and public engagement.
